How did 1984 give me flashbacks in 2022?

It all started with me having some free time, looking at my brother’s library, and all of a sudden, my eyes caught the cover book of 1984 by George Orwell.

Thirty minutes later, I got addicted, fascinated, and scared! Here’s why:

1/ Context of the book:

(there are no spoils, I just want to put you in the context to make my review more understandable) :

  • At the time when George Orwell wrote 1984, the year that gives the book its title was still just about 40 years ahead.
  • A portion of the things Orwell predicted would happen was the telescreen, a TV that notices the people who are watching it, and a world comprising three megastates instead of many nations
  • Another of Orwell’s indications for 1984 is Newspeak, a sort of English that the book’s tyrant government uses to incapacitate free thinking. Orwell acknowledged that, without a word or words to convey an idea, the real idea was hard to consider and hold.

2/ Main takeaway of the book:

The way that it carries you into the dystopian world is extraordinarily smooth and very normal, unlike various books that just uncover to you the entire world, and in any case, it looks like you’re discovering it for yourself.

It moreover illuminates you concerning the savage genuine factors in this world with the legend truly besieging his take over to cut down the public authority rather than some awkward finishing where the saint gets in warmth with someone and beats the public power.

Room 101 was fascinating, and I found that considering it was created so long prior, the whole more established kin thought of being watched continually is delightful, intriguing, and hit against nowadays.

3/ My point of view:

The most fantastic effect of the book is that it pushes you to reexamine an extraordinary arrangement about presence and society. There were many times when I put the meaning of history and what truly makes something veritable in question.

Also, I remember several times when I couldn’t put it down. This kind of book leavesyou requiring more when it’s over. The conclusion deals with various possible issues, and Orwell’s run-of-the-mill performance, stunningly brings back recently referenced events or topics which finally look good in the final big picture. (It feels like you’re looking for puzzles pieces not only to fill a certain gap but also to compose a great picture that you can only admire at the end)

This book resonates insights around my head of how governments misuse power, and how they bit by bit keep people in their own homes; today we have a global pandemic doing the rounds, and the public authority urges people to a lockdown framework inside their own homes saying “stay inside don’t head outside”, only for key food or medication…

Now, Look at the memory hole, who’s the big brother!? who are the unpeople- unhuman!? Who’s constantly trying to incarnate the idea of 2+2=5 in our days?

If you made it here, then thank you so much! And I would love to discuss further this book, so feel free to reach out to me!
